A pleasant news has been given to lakhs of students of class 9th and 11th of the state by the letter number/ Academic/ Second Examination /2026 /200 Bhopal dated 9/ 2 /2026 of the Public Education Directorate, (DPI) Madhya Pradesh Bhopal under the Madhya Pradesh School Education Department.

The examination pattern for grades 9 and 11 under the Madhya Pradesh School Education Department is such that until now, students appeared for the main examination once a year. Six subjects in grade 9 and five subjects in grade 11 were required for the annual main examination. Students were required to pass all subjects in their class to be promoted to the next grade.
If a student failed in any two subjects in class IX and in any one subject in class XI, he/she was given another opportunity to appear in the failed subject in the form of supplementary examination.
But if a student failed in more than two subjects in class 9th and more than one subject in class 11th, he was considered failed and had to study again in the same class.
What is the new change from the examination of the year 2026 ?
According to the order issued by Director of Public Instruction, Wale Gopal, if a student fails in more than one subject in class 9th and more than one subject in class 11th in the main examination of the year 2026, then he will be given the opportunity of second main examination instead of supplementary examination. This means that if a student is in the par in all the subjects in class 9th and 11th, then he can appear in the second main examination.
How will students benefit?
By giving the opportunity of second main examination, such students of class IX and XI who are unable to appear in the examination due to some reasons or fail in many subjects after appearing in the examination, will still get the opportunity to appear in the second main examination and on passing the second main examination, they will be able to take admission in the next class. All this process will be completed by this month, thus saving one year of precious time of the students.
When will the second main examination be held?
The Directorate of Public Instruction, Bhopal has released the timetable for the first main examination of class 9th and 11th for the year 2026. Currently, the timetable for the second main examination of class 9th and 11th has not been released. While issuing instructions in this regard, the Directorate of Public Instruction, Bhopal has written that the timetable for the second main examination will be released soon.
